My '88 F150 I bought came with some fancy Sony CD player with remote, looks so ugly in there! Radio doesn't even work, antenna isn't connected, I gotta find a factory Ford casette player for it from about the same years. I hate new radios in old truck....doesn't look right!
Let me know if you're going to be passing by sometime, I think I have an extra one here you can have.

That is one thing that annoys the heck outta me too. Why would someone put a shiny, multi colored, new looking CD player in a nice classic looking interior?? I want to get a new stereo for mine but I can't find one that looks classic enough to match the interior while still being MP3 and CD functional. I'll have to keep looking for one that wont stick out like a sore thumb.
I got a new JVC head unit for Christmas, haven't installed it yet, but was surprised while reading the manual that it can be set to light up with one of 27 different colours. It's going in a truck with a so-so radio, biggest reason is that it has bluetooth and MP3, so I can listen to what I want, and be a lot easier to use handsfree with the cellphone. (It has a built in mic as well so it becomes the interface for the phone.)
Haha.. our stereos aren't old and classic enough yet for these cool remakes, but this is my dream for my 70s Broncos, have to save my "pocket change" for a while though...
I watched a show where some dudes overhauled an older mustang. They kept the original am band only radio in it but they installed a 1000 + watt system in it that was completely hidden from view. I think they hid the head unit under a fabbed up factory panel in the dash that flipped down when you wanted to use it but when you weren't using it all you could see was the old delco radio. It was a nice classic look with a very powerful system. I don't see why something like this wouldn't be possible in one of our rigs but I am sure that something like this would cost some serious $
I have a kenwood cd player and two alpine 6x9s in the door. A kicker amp under seat and 2 12 inch wolfers behind the seat in my standard cab pickup. It sounds awesome amazing sound

I've seen either a show, or some pictures of someone that put the radio in the glove box. Maybe not so convenient to change the channels/volume, but it doesn't mess up the look in an older vehicle. As a bonus, since its hidden, its very unlikely anyone would steal it. With a RF type remote control that would work really well, but the common IR type (like most tv's) wouldn't help unless it had a remote receiver that was visible.
Guys if your doing any stereo upgrades go and buy then from crutchfield.com I have used there site over 100 times doing various installs on tons of cars and trucks. They also include the radio/headunit adapter harness and speaker harness's FOR FREE. Also include a mastersheet for installing it.
Plus they have reviews for each product and how each customer likes them. I have a kickin radio in my f250, really can crank it up when a sweet song comes on.
did you guys rewire you rentire trucks to the speakers or use the origanal stuff?
I was gonna rewire it myself and then I got the rear and door panels off and realized what kind of job it was gonna be and I decided to use the original wiring. It still sounds great and I am pretty sure that rewiring would not have made a difference unless I was installing some $3k system. Just an FYI here... Best Buy's "geek squad" charges $300 to rewire a car stereo minimum. It is one of the most expensive services they offer if that gives you any idea of what a PITA this job can be...
Murrue has 6x9" speakers in his truck too, two in the doors and two on the back of the seat behind the drop-down arm-rest part. He cut the doors to fit the front speakers there, then the rear ones are just bolted to some metal strips he added across the seat.
