Spark Plug Removal tool

Hey all - I posted this in the Expy forum, but it is less traveled.

I am getting ready to do plugs and I am familiar with the Lisle extraction tool, but this one seems a bit beefier. Any experience from anyone on this? Seems too new to find any online reviews on it.

Ford Triton Spark Plug Extractor

Thx,
Derek

Sorry - that is probably helpful info, since the Lisle is $60ish and the OTC is $300+.

I have found it for anywhere from $55-65, so comparable to the Lisle.

The Lisle has a porcelain pusher tool and heatshield remover tool. The one that Cal Van tool was only a puller when the porcelain is removed. The Lisle works fine.

That Cal Van tool is a Matco Tool copy or heck it may just be that they are selling the same tool.

I own this Matco Tool. I used it when I did my plugs the first time. The tool works, but it is most certainly flawed. The lack of a porcelain pusher is a real problem. You'll have to get creative and figure a way to remove enough porcelain to use the provided tap to cut a couple threads. Not fun, trust me. While I like the fine thread that this set up offer. The Lisle tool is a better and easier way to go. FWIW, I now own this set and a Lisle for when I did plug change number 2. I wanted to be prepared in case plugs broke the second time. None did, but well worth the 65 bucks to have a little peace of mine.

Short story, don't buy this tool, buy the Lisle...

Changed my plugs yest. 04 f150 64000 miles. 5 out 8 plugs broke. If it wasnt for the Lisle tool.............. Id be crying. Took 5 hrs. Did have to vacuum out the cylinders. Had some porc break off of the tips of 3 of the plugs and fell into the motor.but put a small hose down each of the cyl and vacu them out as a precaution, but wasnt too bad. made sure I say the pieces suck up and it was all good.
Was really shocked on how little of force it took to actually snap the plugs apart. within a half turn you could feel the plugs break. All I kept thinking the whole time I was working on it was " what the Hell were they thinking? "

If anyone has any doubt with the Lisle tool.............DONT............It works fantastic

That Cal-Van tool is a copy of the tool Ford came out with in the original tsb. It works, but as said earlier you have to get the porcelain out of the way. I used a sharpened punch to break it out. I have also had one where the shield would turn with the tap. The Lisle tool is much better.

Couldn't have put it better myself. Now I wouldn't even consider pulling a spark plug without the Lisle tool on hand. Ford should have been provided it free of charge to all 05-07 F150 owners as a way of apology for shafting us.

In my opinion the Lisle tool cannot be beat for this application. Buy it and try it, you won't be sorry.
