I have a 2000 3.0 5sp 3.0 and I ve had a rough idle and lack of power. I owned truck for 2 yrs now and only codes where EGR related one was flow issue and now I got a EGR EVP high voltage. Never a misfire code or octane sensor code. Only thing I notice when I do I live dia when running timing jumps around like 16 16.5 16. 12 16 but I cant seem to find out whats causeing it. Could it be this Camshaft Position Sensor and Synchronizer but I have no codes from it. I dont know if ever replaced I know its something but computer isnt pointing me anywhere.
I forgot to add when got truck Every fluid was changed out. PCV, fuel, air filters where changed. New wires and plugs DPFE changed out. Egr checks out( engine stalls when vacuum applied) All sensors check out with scanner vacuum lines check with wd40 or carb cleanner compression test done all between 145 to 160 check timing chain seemed tight no slack. with all that I still have miss at idle and seems to be down on power. Its like I just need to find the little switch and it will take off its not really bad but I know theres better fuel mileage and performance there once I find the issue.
Idk exactly what's causing your problem, as i'm in a bit of a hurry, but the cam sync will *usually* produce a chirping sound when it is about to fail. It may also be characterized by fluctuations in your oil pressure readings. As a general precaution with any Post 95 3.0, it is recommended that you pull the cps and sync and look at their overall condition to be sure that there is no wear.
