Ok, so it is time to replace my stock leaf springs as well as the front coil springs and all the shocks on my 79 f100 2wd, longbed, 351m, auto. I am thinking about getting the gabriel load carrier shocks front+rear. They are supposed to add 500lbs of hauling/carrieing weight to the truck. They are like coil-over shocks. But, i have heard good and bad things about them. The bad things are that they put added stress on the shock mounts, and are obviously more "springy" when you do not have a load, and supposidly someone said could be unsafe because of the added springyness...more bounce and less absorbing bumps....The good things i have heard are-more carring weight, small amount of lift, less brake diveing, lifetime warranty. As for a small "lift", i am unsure about the front, but i have had these on a truck once before, and the back sat about 1-2" higher...not sure if they were the same brand though. Anyone currently using these shocks or used them in the past? How do they really perform daily driving/hauling/off-road? Any lift in the front? Any input?...
Thats what my truck came with, so I can't tell you the ride difference.
It's pretty springy and you get considerable hop with nothing in the bed, starting and stopping. I have about 200 lbs of sand in the back righut up against the tailgate and that makes it ride a little better.
This truck is my daily driver and works hekka well, just slow down going over train tracks otherwise you'll be bouncing all over the place
my truck has them on it currently and unless your running your truck with a load in it VERRY often i would stay away from them the make the truck ride like a terd and handle like one to and yes when you hit bumps the rear end will "pogo" behinde you
Front and rear. Remember though that I have leafs front and rear cos I have a 3/4 ton. It'll still be springy or you, I'm just not sure how much difference you'll have with your halfie
both, if your haveing issues with ride hight id recomend haveing your spring pack re-arched and new coils installed theres no substitution for the correct thing
yeah, i plan on putting on a set of new front coil springs. As for the leafs, i was thinking about buying a set of new ones from jcwhitney. I was just curious of how these gabriel load carrier shocks would do with the new front+rear springs. I am currently debating on those shocks, pro-comp gas charged shocks and maybe some random shocks from the autoparts store. I was mainly thinking of the load carrier shocks because of the advertised 500+lb of extra load capacity, as well as maybe some extra "lift" or "stiffness and less sagging"....still not sure though
as far as the front goes it doesnt realy change alot until u hit a pothole and in my dent .........well you might as well hit a prius. and re-arching springs i have no idea, ive never had it done. i know it can be done but where idk im in central NC and theres a suspention shop a few miles from me that does that kinda thing
