I recently bought a '79 F250 4x4 that has a 460 in it. To get it through emissions, it needs an A.I.R. system on it. Does anyone have any illustrations or pics of what all is needed for this. Is the '79 setup different than one from an '80's 460? I've seen plenty of '80's 460's on CL that I could get parts from, but no '79's..

There is no 1979 setup like this.
You may have a worse problem than you think. What does CO say inre to smog testing for a swapped engine?
Ford did not offer a 460 engine with 4WD (or w/a manual trans) until 1983, and then only in F350's.
If you were in CA with this setup, you'd be SOL, as CA requires everything to be original, in place and in working order.
Since the engine has been swapped, I dunno what it's from, so there's no way I can tell you what parts are required, or how they were installed.
Suggest you look for the engine block's casting number (near the starter), that will pin it down somewhat as to what year it is.
Examples: D1VE-6015-AB, -AB1, -AB2 (1971/79 w/o a weighted spacer) / D9TE-6015-AB (1979 and later w/a weighted spacer). The spacer (weighted or not) fits on the crank's snout between the damper and timing cover.
The early C8VE, C9VE, DOVE (1968/70 car) blocks did not have much in the way of emissions equipment.
The emissions tech just said it has to have an AP hooked up. They don't verify that it's the original setup, their book doesn't give specifics of what exactly is original, just that it had one. So, is the 79 setup different or less difficult to setup? I guess I'm looking for my easiest solution as it passed the actual emissions portion of the test pretty well.
Tell the tech its a 68 or so block which had no smog equipment. If they give you grief then ask then to find out what a factory set-up 79 ford 460 4x4 should have. Since it doesn't exist, they shouldn't expect you to make it up. Certain VIN codes didn't require the smog equipment I thought at least on the 400's?
The book doesn't specify 4x4, it just says that a '79 F250 was available with a 460 and it came with an air pump. Also, I don't believe they care what the engine came out of unless it's newer, then they would want the emissions from the newer vehicle that the engine came from.
[quote=DL1221;8084545]For a 1978 F150-250 with light duty emissions (GVW under 8500lbs), and California emissions, your truck's 460 should have the following emissions equipment:
- PCV = PCV valve
- TAC = Thermostatic Air Cleaner (yes they do have a hot air riser)
- AIS = Air Injection System (air pump)
- EVAP = Evaporative Emission Control (charcoal canister)
- OC = Catalytic Converter
- EGR = Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR Valve)
- SPK = Spark Control
- EGR-BPS = EGR Back-Pressure Sensor
- VTK = Vacuum Throttle Kicker
