L&L headers...

Hey guys, I have been kicking around the idea of throwing a set of headers on my 79 Bronco with a 460. When I first put this truck together I decided to leave the stock manifolds on it and just have a nice dual exhaust system installed. Since then I've changed my mind and decided I want to get a set of headers for it. I am looking at the L&L 3/4 length ultraflow headers, JBG seems to have the best price out there. I am leaning towards going with the 3/4 length set because I think they will work best for hooking up to my existing exhaust system. Does anyone here have any other recommendations, or are these headers a good choice? Thanks in advance for any and all input.
John

Mark at Maddog is the man! They fit great as long as you have a stock head ( I had some fitment issues because of the exhaust port location on my aluminum heads) and are very high quality. His headers are not coated though so Id highly suggest having them Jethot coated. DO NOT paint them because guess what...you cant get paint inside the tubes. Once they rust it will put the loose junk inside your engine upon initial start up.

Id buy these again over the L&Ls I replaced any day.

2" primary 3.5" collector fender exit with Jethot Sterling 1300* coating

I was looking at the Maddog headers as well on JBG, they are priced a bit better than the L&Ls. I would concider going with them but I'm not sure if I want to go with a chassis exit long tube design. I can't go with fender well exit because I've already spent the money on an inside the frame exhaust system. If I could do it over again I would have went with the fender well headers and had an outside of the frame exhaust put on. I guess what makes the L&Ls look better to me is they offer them in a "shorty type" and the lifetime warranty against rust through.
The other thing is I am probably going to be running a basically stock or mildly modded 460 for a while until funds allow me to build a nasty motor. I am thinking 2" primary tubes might be a bit big for a stock motor.

Back when I bought my L&L's ntwonline was the cheepest place to buy the L&L headers. I like outboard headers a lot better. There is nothing in the way when it comes time to run pipes + they look cool.

Go to Mikes site and get his number. Mad Dog Headers

He may be offering chassis exit headers now but not listing them on his site. I know shortly after I bought mine he came out with a 2 1/8 primary 4" collector header that I wish I had waited for. - those still arent on the site btw and I bought my headers Jan of 09.

I agree, like I said... if I could do it all over again I would have went with the outboard headers/exhaust instead. I got on L&L's website and I don't like how the long tube inboard headers are designed to fit under the truck. The driver's side header as it comes down it curves under toward the middle of the truck... almost directly beneath the oil pan. I like how the 3/4 length headers are tucked up a little more, not only that it looks as though I would be able to hook them up to my existing exhaust system (which wasn't cheap and is less than a year old) without butchering it too badly. When the time comes for new exhaust I will probably go with the Maddog outboard headers. Maybe before I make my final decision I'll call Mike and see if they offer an inboard shorty type Maddog header set for my application.
