Has anyone tried to run the heated mirrors off of the up fitter switch?
I would like to be able to turn the heat on and off manually because I get so much crap on my mirrors and then the heat bakes it on, seems like all I get done is cleaning the mirrors as to be able to safley see when backing.
If anyone knows of a thread I would greatly appreiciate it.
I am a little confused here, my heated mirrors are manual. If I turn them on, I can also hit the switch and it turns them back off anytime during the cycle. If I leave them on, they will warm for about 15 minutes, or at least the frost or condensation is gone and they turn off. If you are living in a more cold climate, they may be thermostatically controlled and stay on longer, getting very warm and "bake" the grime on. Help us here with a little more info, such as year of truck. Everyone here wants to help!
Prior to '08, the heated mirrors were just on, all the time, regardless. No thermostat nor anything. I have the same problem, a little wet road and the water boils off and leaves water spots, until eventually I can't see off of them.
This diagram is for an '04. Unfortunately, the fuse and relay boxes changed in '05, so the fuse numbers and locations aren't going to be the same. The wire colors will probably be though. You might be able to correlate the fuse numbers from an '04 owners manual and this diagram, to the fuse numbers from an '05 owners manual.
Fuse 104 in my book says "Heated Backlight" (whatever that means). Fuse 9 is says "Heated Mirrors". If you can identify a "Heated Mirrors" fuse, and find a dark green w/ violet stripe wire coming from it, you should be able to first make sure that's the right wire, then severe it and hook it to an upfitter switch. You'd want to use one of the 20A or higher switches.
Sorry for the lack of info. 07 F350 6.0 king ranch. I think I read here a little while back that the mirrors stay heated (or maybe I felt them) anyway like d said the water gets baked on.
D thanks for the info, I will try to hook them up. And if I fail I know where to come for the right answers. Thanks again.
