Got all cracks filled(used por 15 putty) sanded smooth, ready for paint. An article in auto restorer said use enamel paint with a brush, spray cans have somthing that doesnt work with the plastic(or what was used). What have some of you used? ahow long has it been on? It is a daily driver, and a 49 if that makes any difference.
I used POR-15 putty and painted the wheel in my '49 about 15+ years ago. I had a body shop paint it gloss black with 5-6 coats of clear. The body guy said he applied the additional coats for wear. It's been 15+ years and it looks as good as it did when applied. The only problem I had was the cracks redeveloped. I ground out all the cracks to get to fresh material but after a while I think the "fresh" old material just gave way. I have hair line cracks but it still looks a lot better than when there were pieces missing.
I've used rust oleum specialty paint for plastic with good results. Krylon also has a paint for plastic. If adhesion is a problem, Dupli color self ecthing primer works well on about anything. can get it all in your local auto stores or home depot type stores
I've done many of them with automotive single stage urethane black over standard automotive filling urethane primers. Once the repairs are done, it's just sand, prime, prep and paint, just like any other body part. Works great. And a catalyzed urethane won't rub off like rattle can will.
