Looking for advise to fit up my 2002 F-150 Supercab with roof rack and bed rack to transport a 20 foot mahogany sea kayak.
I have Thule bars and saddles for my Jeep that I will use over the cab, but Thule and Yakima do not sell a rack to fit into my F-150 bed for rear support. So, I'm looking for ideas on fabricating a rack to tie down in the bed, or preferably a manufactured rack that is designed to fit and tie down in the bed. One of problems I have with some of the manufactured racks is that they require welding to the top rails of the bed, which I do not want to do.
Check-out the canoe carriers that plug into your rear (or front) 2" hitch receiver. You can find them on www.riverraiders.com , www.cabelas.com and other sites.
There are some lumber rack systems out there that fit into the stake holes or mount to / slide on a rail bolted to the bed rail.
Thanks, Blaine. I'm familiar with the upright support that plugs into the hitch receiver. They look pretty good for most situations. But, I can't use that in my application, because I'm towing a travel trailer.
I'd like to find out more on the lumber rack system you mentioned. I haven't had any luck online and my local kayak company can't give me a reference regards these systems.
I was hoping that someone here might have built one and could give me specs.
