I have Thule roof racks that fit my 2013 Super Duty. I use them to carry kayaks and occasionally a bike. I understand that I just need to get different mounting brackets for them to work on a 2017 Super Duty. I'm a little apprehensive because of the aluminum body. I've ordered the ultimate package with the sunroof.
Has anyone used roof racks on their new Super Duty?
Will they work with a sunroof?
My assumption is it'll need a foot pack identical to the F150? I just recently added roof racks to my '13 F250 and will now have to swap those onto my new truck when I get it so if anyone has done this I'd love to hear. Pictures are always great too!
Yes from the research I've done it looks like it requires a foot pack kit 1787 same as the newer F150. I believe everything else is the same as the racks that fit the 2013. The foot packs will need to be adjusted to work on the 2017 Super Duty. They mount on the edge of the roof and should sit high enough so they don't interfere with the sunroof. I was hoping to hear from members that have used roof racks on the new Super Duty.
I will contact Thule this week to confirm and report back.

I just got a response from Thule. The foot pack kit is all I will need. It will work with the sunroof but they say not to operate it with the roof racks installed.

I'm waiting for the new Aluminium Expedition/Navigator to come out so that I can add the rail kit to the SD. For some reason, a clamp has me less comfortable than a permanent fit, so I'll be waiting another 6-12 months before I add one.

Makes sense.
For me the Super Duty will just clear my garage door so the removable racks are the only option. They haven't made a mark on my 2013. Hopefully it will be the same on the new truck.

Lol so what it sounds like he's saying is it won't work with the sunroof. If you can't use the sunroof with the rack installed then you can't really say the rack works.

I rarely open the sunroof anyway. The brackets look like they mount on the edge of the roof and don't touch the glass. That was my concern.
For me it works O.K. for the few times a year I'll use it. It's a great way for me to carry a couple of kayaks.
Grampscamper, you have the setup that I am going to get, the GD 337, and I also just got my F350. How do you like the set-up? Any problem with turn clearance with the standard bed? Do you need airbags or is the standard set up sufficient? Lastly how big are your kayaks, I too will be looking to add a rack.

I have a F350 on order now to replace my F250. My F250 has the camper package plus air bags. It does a great job of towing the Reflection. I usually run between 30-40 lbs. in the air bags and the suspension is just off the helpers. I'm definitely over the payload of a F250 so decided to go with a F350 this time. I should be within the limits of the truck. I don't plan to add air bags to the new Super Duty. I think it should be good based on what I read on this forum.
I broke my rear window doing a tight turn a couple of months ago. I just wasn't paying attention. I've since replaced the hitch with a B&W set to the rearmost setting. This gives me an extra couple of inches over my old setup. I just don't like sliding hitches. In 5 years I only had one mishap. With the extra 2" I should be good now.
My kayaks are 10' long. I place them as far forward as I can. I also place them in the middle of the roof racks. They usually hang over the back of the cab less than 12". No problem with clearance with my old hitch so it should be much better now.
When I first got my B&W hitch I experimented in the storage lot parking lot to see my limits. As you can see above I can make an extreme turn but would contact if I don't pay attention. I would never have a requirement to get to this angle anyway. I'm very pleased with the Super Duty and the Reflection. It's a great combination. I know you'll be one happy camper!
