Roof Rack

Does anybody have a roof rack on a 2017 with panoramic roof? I looked at Ford accessories online and they offer a Thule but say it's not compatible with the panoramic roof. Is it a weight issue or just someone opening it and hitting the rack.

I don't really have the answer. The front part of the moonroof is the only part that opens. It drops down and retracts below the level of the rear glass, so I don't think it would hit a roof rack. I'm guessing it has more to do with the mounting method.

Just mount it over the bed.

I would love that but I am trying to figure out a way to carry kayaks while towing a travel trailer. I don't really want a bed rack because I want to be able to use the bed cover. I have seen the stake pocket racks that will work but it appears the kayak would hang off of that too far over the trailer/hitch area and create an issue in tight turns.

Thule's rack will work, it just comes with the following warning from their website fit guide:

45. Thule does not recommend opening, venting, or retracting the sunroof/moonroof/glass roof while the rack is mounted. Damage to the glass and/or opening mechanism can occur.
This solution has a maximum weight limit of 130 lbs.

I have the Tule system, same as for the F150. I carried two kayaks without trouble, but it does bend a lot in the middle.

I ordered my truck specifically with no sunroof so I could use the roof rack while towing my fifth wheel. I have a Thule rack.

Do you have the panoramic roof on your truck? What size and weight kayaks do you have?

But why did you order without the sunroof? What makes the roof rack more usable without the sunroof?

Wow, that is what I'm looking for Rugby, nice set up. Do you have part numbers for that set-up? Thanks.

It wouldn't because I could not use my bed cover with a rack like that. I have looked at them. USA Rack makes one that goes in the stake pockets that allows you to still use your bed cover. However, i would rather not have the kayaks hanging that far past the bed while towing. I think they might get in the way of tight turns. Plus I would have to store those things somewhere when not in use. Don't want them on the truck all the time. Not crazy about a roof rack but like that better.

I have posted pictures of my new rack on a related thread "Mounting Contractor/Ladder Rack – Bolt-on or Stake Pockets?"

The big kayak is 18" and the truck is CCSB. If I placed that kayak in the middle I would be fine on turns with my travel trailer.

I found the custom build price to be very competitive to off the shelf pricing considering the size of the rack.

That's not my setup. Look up a few posts above mine. I was just commenting on his.
