temp guage

i covered the rad with cardboard to much and it got to hot while driving
the engine light came on and the needle climbed to the hot side, so i puled over and removed the cardboard, ---ok, so now two days later the needle still is on the hot side burried and the engine light stays on
what to do?

The switch for the temp light is bad. If the temp gets high enough to activate the light it will override the sender for the gauge and peg the needle.

yep kind of like the check engine light. Once on it needs to be re done. That is why you simply do away with it for a mechanical gauge! hehe

Unplug the wire on the temp light sensor in the pic above, and the temp gauge should operate correctly if I'm not mistaken.
