I have done alot of seaching on the site but still cannot find my problem. Here is how it all started. I was pulling my skid loader behind my 1999 ford f250 v10 and the o/d button started blinking and a few miles later the front transmission seal blew out. So I had local garage put new seal in and all was good but light still flashes. So I was pulling again the very next day and it was shifting hard so i took it easy, but then i saw smoke again and my speedodometer went crazy so i pulled over. I let it cool down and the front seal sealed itself. The guy at the garage said that when it is not shiffting right that it makes the transmission over heat. He said that the fluid is heating up and bypassing something and blowing the seal. Is this right? He said there is a sensor in tranny that would do this. So i took off the pan just to see if it was a sensor/solenoid that i could fix quick but just want to make sure. He also said the tranny was done but i just don't believe it. I can still drive but shifts so hard from 1st to second and I know that seal will blow again if i try to pull trailer. Please advise.
P0708 is the Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) circuit high input. That means either the TRS or the wiring to the TRS has a short. I don't know why you would take the pan off with this code, the TRS is on the driver's side of the transmission, on the outside.
The right way to do this is to check the wires to the TRS back to the PCM for opens, shorts to power, and shorts to ground. You can also check that the TRS has the proper outputs. You'll need a diagram of outputs for the sensor, and I don't have one.
The backyard approach is to replace the sensor and hope that it isn't the wiring.
