come-a-long a couple 4x4's about 6' long and some chain. Then you can pull off the rafters if they are exposed.

you could build a ramp from 2x6s and 3/4 ply wood, then run a strap between the front stake pockets. Then hook your comealong to the strap and drag it up the ramp.

As a last resort you can shove a couple stakes down in the front two pockets, hook a chain across the front of the bed to the stakes and then use a couple 2x4's for ramps... Hook the come-a-long to the chain to drag the engine up the ramps.

2 buddies and a case of beer! But seriously....I took a small block Chevy into my basement on a hand truck one time. Stood it on the bellhousing mounting flange with the intake towards the hand truckand took it down. My ex-brother in law helped me get it back out of the basement after I had rebuilt it. Of course we were both about 25 years younger.....LOL Maybe a hand truck, a ratchet strap or 2 to hold it to the hand truck and a couple of planks or 4 wheeler ramps. I think 2 guys could load one that way.

I loaded two V12 Jag motors by walking them onto a crate. I then used a come a long to pull them into the trailer on some 2x6' ramps.

You don't know ANYONE with an engine hoist? Not only are you going to load the engine into the truck, but you'll need to unload it too. Plus you'll need the hoist the swap the engines later.

I'm sure somebody you know has one, ask around. Ask some neighbors. Why spend 2 hours of back breaking loading an engine and 2 hours of back breaking unloading it, when it could be done in 15 minutes no sweat.

Heck my engine hoist would take up the whole back of my truck and it's heavy! Not such an easy thing to just toss in and go pick up an engine with so sometimes you have to get creative.

The ramp/come along thing idea works, use some 4x4's (8fters to make it not to steep) and some 3/4 plywood. But use a piece of metal or something as a skid plate to help slide the eng up.

Or get one of those slide in receiver carryall racks, strip the eng to make it lighter. BTW take a pic so we can see what you came up with.

That doesn't make sense. Take YOUR time to hook up and trailer so you can quickly load up the engine. Why waste the seller's time?

I must be in the minority here, but when I sold an engine or parts I didn't want the buyer taking his sweet time, while wasting mine.

Also, if a guy showed up expecting to DRAG an engine across my garage and driveway he would have been sent home empty handed.

Got a point there

When I have sold engines in the past I always had a way to load them myself and the one time I didn't I let the buyer know so he could figure something out ahead of time.

The last engine I sold (Jeep 258) I was the same way, I had it chained and ready on the hoist. Of course the guy shows up with a Honda hatchback.
