Alignment needed after ball joint replacement?

The cheap 40-50$ alignment should be enough to keep the tires in good condition for awhile.
Toe is the important alignment for tires. A car or truck can have silly amounts of camber and as long as the toe is good the tires won't wear as fast as one would think.
If the toe is off the tires will wear very fast. The more it is off the faster the tires will wear obviously.
