Lifting a Excursion

I am new to this forum. Hopefully this question was not asked.

I have a 2001 Excursion 4x4 with a 7.3 diesel. This truck sit very low compared to my 2000 f350 Superduty 4x4 with a 7.3 diesel that I use to have.

Ok the question I have is can I put a suspension from a f350 Superduty 4x4 with a 7.3 diesel and give me the stance of the superduty.

If that would work that would give me a 3-4 inch lift which thats what I would want.

So all I would need to do is change leaf springs, spacer (block), u-bolts.

Thanks for any help

The spring swap your talking about is popular here. It is the VB code spring swap. I did this on my ex and gained 1.75 inches enough to clear 285's. The diff between you truck and the Ex is the way the body is mounted. I'm sure you notice how much more of your frame that shows on the truck than on the Ex. To get 3 or 4 inches will take a lift kit. I later did 6" lift on my X and with some bumper mods (2.5" spacers) I run 35/14.5/16's. All depends on what you want.

So what you are saying is you have to lift an excursion a bit higher than a superduty to fit the same size tires?

Thanks for that answer. I thought they were mounted the same as a standard cab with an 8 foot bed.

I do alot of boat hauling all different types of boats with a hydraulic trailer so they never have the right tongue weight and the rear drops alot.

Which would you do
Put a F-350 suspension under the Ex. and a 2.5 inch leveling kit in front and a 2 inch block in the rear
or
A 3 or 4" lift kit with air bag in rear

How heavy is the boat? What size tires do you want to run?

Actually come to think of it I used X code springs up front (03' diesel F250)

My boat is just under 15000 when full of gas and water in the tanks.
The other boats are same or lower.

I was thinking a 285 75 16 would be fine
The main reason for the lift is just to give truck a better look.
The reason for the f350 springs would be for towing

I went with a 6" BDS because they supposedly had the stiffest springs. I tow a 30'TT, but it only weighs about 8K loaded. When I drop the trailer on, the rear sags about 3/4 of an inch. I'm sure they have 4" kits that will do what you want. Your talking a lot more than me. Depending upon money there are several ways to go. I know there are a couple air systems that are designed to do what you are looking to do and will give you some lift. One of them is this: Ford - 4Link Towing Kit. I watched the install on this and they articulated the system 4" up and down and claim big tow numbers.

I installed "X" springs and F350 blocks in the rear.

Before:

After:

With new wheels and tires 285/75r17 (~34"s) and no rubbing

Clearance to front bump stop ...

How tall does your truck sit? It looks really good. I have a 6" lift with 35" tires and my Ex sits at just about 7". Its like 3 inches to tall to fit in my garage!

thats also something i would suggest considering when lifting your ex.

Any modifications to get the X codes in and working? Seriously considering this option myself.

I have never measured my roof height on it but mine fits in my garage no problem. My garage has a 8 foot door though. Mine even fits in the garage with the roof basket on yakima towers installed.

No other modifications other than just swapping the springs.

Thanks rkik! I've seen Cary recommend adj.tracbar at 4" lift and wondered if it was a nice to have or have to have. Also if you had to mess with the endlink mounting points for the sway bar.

I'm looking at keeping the stock blocs on the rear and doing the modded B's with RAS. I've been torn between the V's & X's for the front. I sure like the looks of your X (especially with the 285's & 17's). Good look'n truck!!!

Keep in mind that this thread is about a year and a half old now, but here is a link to a lot more about lifting, spring swaps, and other suspension questions: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...ml#post6722938
