I've also had very good luck with the Autolite DPs.
PAWPAW, have you noticed a measurable difference in mileage? Or for that matter towing/ hauling power with the Iridium Enhanced versions?
I haven't been able to measure an increase in mpg with the fine wire iridium enhanced plugs.
Only noticeably faster starts, smoother idle in "N" & no random miss when on a hard lug when towing.
Hey Ranger dudes,
I am the tech manager at Autolite. Interesting forum with some great and not so great information. I run Autolite XP104's in my 98 Ranger 4.0, it has 185k on the clock and runs great. The truck originally came with double platinum plugs, Ford (and many other automakers) now recommend using an iridium fine wire spark plug with a platinum pad on the side wire. That would be our XP spark plug. They retail for around 5.99-6.99 each. If you really want to know all about spark plugs, heat range, metallurgy and DIS ignitions, go to autolite.com and watch the autolite challenge videos. And yea, that ugly mug spouting off is me.
Peace
In my case the previous owner had installed the autolite dp's and the truck was giving him issues with misfires, bogging, etc... I removed the autolite dp's and tried the motorcraft plugs and the problem was resolved...
I just replaced all my Autolite DP's with OEM Motorcraft... so far I am pleased with the Motorcraft plugs.

Creeker...I realize you do not have enough posts to create a signature...so I dont know what engine you have........but if you have the 4.0.......I don't think MC makes the exact oem plug for the truck..........what was the actual part # of the plug you put in? was it a single platinum? etc...details details.......
* maybe the autolites were not gap properly? how long had they been in there......a lot of sellers lie about the maintenance?..........the only horror stories in these fords about plugs that I know of come from Bosch
also if the PO put to many fuel additives in the truck those can trash plugs, seafoam is know to do that.....
powersmoked - its a 4.0L OHV. I replaced the dp's with the Motorcraft OE Finewire Single Platinums, part no. SP486, I believe. He had just replaced the plugs and wires... he provided receipts when I got it off him. Not sure the plugs were the definite cause of the misfire, but that is what appears to have resolved it in my case.
Just because he just did it, doesn't mean it was done right. He may not have used the right plugs, one could have had a cracked insulator, a boot was not installed properly, etc. All your story states is that you do better work that the previous installer. The Autolite and Motorcraft plugs are 100% identical.

Nicely "done show & tell" Jay, you did Good!!!!. Thanks for posting.
I watched all six video modules, After I figured out where they were located, (at the bottom of the "learn more" tag), then a way to get past the Region/Langage page, that wouldn't work to foward me & open the video module page for viewing.
Maybe you could have someone look into that Region/Language page to see whats up with it not fowarding after a region/language is chosen.
Think I'll start a spark plug tutorial thread & post a link to these videos & ask that the thread be considered for a "stickey" in this forums Tech Info thread.

I wasn't suggesting that the autolite dp's are bad or the motorcraft plugs are better or whatever... just simply stated, I replaced the dp's that were in mine with the motorcraft plugs and I am pleased with them.
