I just looked it up in the Factory 1979 Ford Shop manual and it shows that his driveshaft is not in backwards.
Also says that 4X4 trucks not just Broncos can have a double cardone joint rear driveshaft.
Not trying to start a problem I was just checking to make sure we are telling him the right info.
ok so when are you gunna get that bed on there so we can see what it really looks like?!?
looks way nice though, cant wait to start putting togather a 4" lift for my truck
does it matter if it's a 78? i know i removed the dshaft to put new ujoints in, but i installed it back in the same way i took it out. after tearing the front end apart do to the lift and rear, seems like everything was backwards or way over tightened. i could see how the p.o. put it in backwards, if it is in backwards.
TOOk it for a little ride this morning
the lights on the bumper i picked up at harbor freight for 10$. i couldnt pass them up when i knew i could def. use them for this. however, i DO NOT tool shop there, i'd rather have a tool last longer than one use, and ill pay for it too. The bed will go on when i get the cab corners done, and fix the wheel arches on the bed. Soo, some more work ahead ha...(never ending with these trucks)
I have had several 78's over the year's. My first one was bought in 1979 and the drive shaft was installed the way yours is as were all of the other ones including the one I have in the garage right now. Your drive shaft is installed the correct way.
Interesting about the driveshaft, regardless of which way ford put it in its always been common practice if the shaft has no cardon you hide the slip yoke behind the transfer. Not only keeps it out of water & mud ect, but mounted to the rear normal road grim is aimed right at the seal, particularly at that low level & these seals are now pushing on 25yrs old. The other way round not only is the slip yoke hidden behind the transfer its running yoke forward so the seals nearly irrelevant.
