I have a question regarding the cure time for Rectorseal 5 in diesel fuel line applications. The manufacturer states: "[SIZE=2]For natural gas, air and water lines up to 2" diameter and up to 100 psi, piping systems may be placed into immediate service. For other service and application conditions, cure times may vary. Contact Technical Service for recommended cure times."
I'm unable to contact their technical service department until Monday Jan 3 and I would rather not wait that long to find out if the cure time is 6 hours for diesel fuel or some other relatively short time.
I generally use a dry sealant, i.e. teflon tape, on petroleum applications. I have seen the paste type "wash out" if not cured enough.
I've heard good things about using both teflon tape and Rectorseal 5. I have already applied Rectorseal 5 in my post pump filter kit that I was re-installing due to a leak from a fitting. So, at this point I'm allowing it to cure completely before pressurizing the fuel line. The first time I did it, I didn't allow the Rectorseal to cure at all and that's where I figure I went wrong.
That's why I'm interested in the cure time for diesel applications.
I would not recommend using Teflon tape of any kind on fuel injection systems. It is way too easy to have a few shreds of tape shear off the threads and travel through the fuel system. If they make it to the injectors, Teflon tape can and will cause serious problems due to the very small ports within the injectors.
Rectorseal is not rated for fuel systems, gasoline or diesel. I have only found one product that is rated for diesel usage.

Rectorseal 5 actually IS rated for fuel systems. I have provided a link to Rectorseal's product description page from their website. Scroll down to the Applications section. No. 5(R) Product Datasheet

I have always been careful to wrap the tape around the threads without any on the first few. I haven't had any problems doing it that way. It is the recommended way to do any tapered thread fitting.

I stand corrected.
I guess it is a bias I have against Rectorseal...LOL
My 22 years of screwing pipes together, I always hated Rectorseal and many of us nicknamed it as Rectum seal...... LOL
I still stand by my statements on Teflon tape. I have investigated many house fires that were cause by Teflon tape not allowing a control valve from completely closing.
