I am about as frustrated as you can get with Ford and its delivery system. My truck was built early so getting it before the holidays was going to happen. I was counting on a tax deduction for 2010 and get some miles on it before I could tow. The truck is not here as of Jan 31st. and has been sitting 150 miles away for over 2 weeks. So now no deduction and I can't break it in right. I am really considering not taking it and keeping my 05. I need some advise because we usually don't make good choices when we are .
I can hardly make the decision for you but the new truck is worth the wait. I am unsure what you use for a break in regimen but Ford recommends 500 miles before any towing. I bought my 2011 in June while working 800 miles from home. I put 1200 miles on it and then towed my 13000 pound fiver home. The truck has been great. You did not say what model 05 you have but none of that vintage will hold a candle to the 2011 F350.
Talk to your accountant as to whether you can claim it if you placed the order (and paid a deposit) and it arrived a tad late... sometimes, there is a bit of wiggle.
I am sometimes a pessimist and I have a tendency to pick out the negatives in things. I can't quite say exactly what I would do if I were in your shoes because I'm not nor ever have been, but my initial thought would be to take this as a "sign" and hold off. I may also be saying that because I kind of feel the 2011 trucks are sounding too good to be true right now. I want to see how these engines hold up and hear some stories about people with 100K+ problem free miles before I invest in a brand new diesel engine built by a company that has never actually designed a diesel before.
...sometimes a pessimist? How did you ever talk yourself into the 2010 6.4 Navistar powered Ford truck after 7 years of being surrounded by anti Ford diesel negativity...not bashing you, just wondering. As far as the new 2011. it has been a fantastic model introduction. The truck has exceeded all expectations both in sales and performance. Although we may not have seen the first consumer purchased 100000 mile truck, the time is near. At this point in either the 6.0 or 6.4 introductions, problems were becoming widespread. This has just not happened with the new truck... There have been some isolated sensor and sub-system issues but no widespread recurring problems. Internet chatter regarding major issues with the engine has been almost non-existent. While there may be literally a handful of verified big problems, Ford has installed new engines and recalled the failures for engineering analysis. The good news, 150000 plus buyers, myself included, are enjoying these new trucks while we do the heavy lifting for the doubters and the cautious.
