JBG catalog shows them and calls them a "cactus pusher", not to sure if they still stock them? HIO Silver is looking into making his own, I am getting him the measurements.

they are pulling the bar off tomorrow for me, i would have done it but they dont allow that

I hate a "non" pick and pull, I have one of the only pick n pull still around here 4 miles from the house. That way I get the part I need and any and all associated pieces and parts.

I'd like to get ahold of one for my 1977, no luck yet. HIO, if you decide to make some and they turn out nice I'd be interested.

Arrightee... I'll have to turn out a couple of prototypes to get the bend measurements. We'll see how it goes.

Sho'nuff. I'm thinking of getting a spare bumper and using it to build on. It should ensure that the mounting plate holes are in the ballpark. Say, there's no difference btwn front frame horns on these rigs, right? I mean, I know the rears differed but the fronts remained the same throughout the series. Confirm?

Another question: How thick are the mounting plates? My guess is 3/16th.

An Ensuing Thought... ever notice these rigs get that characteristic bumper fold over the frame horn when the front bumper is bent back due to a mild collision? There are no supports for the outer "wings" of the bumper. Do ya think there would be anyone interested in front outer bumper brackets?

I measured mine & it is 1/8" plate (used tread depth guage 4/32)'Not shure about the supports most people would probably not want to drill the bumper.

Great idea on getting a bumper to work with, if I was close I would lend you a 77 and 79and the 77/79 push bar itself.

Remember there is a different "shape/rap" on the top edge of the 73-77 versus the 78-79bumper.

As far as some outer bumper brackets, how are they going to mount to the outer edge of the bumper ?

Drill Baby Drill.......... 1/8th? That's it? Sheesh that's thin. 'Might have to market these as "Improved Versions"... if you call in the the next five minutes... I digress.

Ya'll make excellent points about reluctance to drill bumpers... good point about the 78/79s.. <mental note logged>.

Arright.. first things first. Cloning the pushbar.

I have a 79 - F350 4x4 that had support brackets that ran from the bumper to the outside of the frame just back of the front spring hangers. If you look at the underside of the bumper you will see it's predrilled at 6'' from the hangers. there is also a slot precut at the outer ends of the bumper. Not sure what thats for. The support is a heavy steel rod with flattened ends at the appropriate angles to go from the bottom of bumper to the side of the frame. I have only seen these on one other vehicle in all the years i've looked, a bronco either 78 or 9.

Did the braces look like something Ford would have installed? Or did they look custom fabricated to address the issue?

If it is a Ford part, then relative rarity or obscurity is a reasonable conclusion.
