I got this information from a tractor forum that had a listing if cetane ratings by retailers.
Bp/Amaco, 51
Chevron, 49
PetroCanada, 47-51
Shell, 46
Sinclair, 46
Sunoco gold, 45 regular, 40
Holiday stations, 40-43
Hess, not less then 40, 40-42 average
Husky, 40
Flying J, 40
Love's, 40
Pilot,40
Valero,40
From what I see Texas, and California are the only 2 states that mandate 50 cetane minimum.
Maybe someone from Texas can verify the 50 cetane minumum number in that state because I always thought Calif. was the only state. You would think that the EPA as strict as they are would make the northern states sell only high cetane fuel especially in the winter months where diesels need it the most. I read another article that stated cetane averages in 1966 were 57.

I have the same info as you have above, taken from a forum post that is years old.
It is almost worth it to have us approach the majors and ask them flat out what they sell in each jurisdiction.
See who we get an answer from.
The usual rule --- non-response from the low cetane is expected.
my uncle lives in the Dallas-fortworth area and he says that several counties around him have a mandated cetane rating, but I thought he said it was something like 45 minimum. I was told by a "refinery guy" that cetane level is not mandated in Houston and San Antonio. Dont know about the rest of the state.
How old is that list? To bad it doesn't list Exxon, the largest producer. Exxon is posted at 40CE in Virginia Beach, like gas is right on the pump.... but finding anything higher than 40, good luck!
