remove cross member, let transmission down with a jack placed out of the way of where your transmission jack will be (don't go so low that stuff in the engine compartment starts breaking) long bar and roll body seam out of the way, 4 foot extension and a universal socket, take top bolts out.

pulled rear driveshaft dont have a 12pt 8mm for the front?
starter
draind fluid nice brown with alot of glitter...yay....
dropped exhaust as much as i could. idk how to get up to the top bell housing bolts.
stared at it..
anyone have a tip for getting to the top bolts bellhousing/block?
a couple of long extention's with a swivel will get you there without any trouble. i have a few long 1/2 inch if you need. not sure about the 12 point 8mm though
Gary, the trans will be going behind a 289 with a mild cam... nothin special. maybe 250 hp if i am lucky... so, i am up for ideas/advice from someone who knows.
thanks.
thanks Bill ill be down by you tom since thats where the trucks at . if i hit a snag ill shoot you a call. thanks again.
this is what the oil looked like. i think i have more problems then i thought
and the filter just fell with the pan. is that normal? haha
the o-ring is still up there and ill be sure to pull it off before it gets replaced.
Bart, I forget sometimes that they make spark plugs! Similar internals though. Bill, I'm guessin your tranny is case fill? Dip stick goes into the case and not the pan? 96f350az, it looks like aluminum? if so more than likely planet failure.
it's from a 66 mustang... i have 1 complete and one unassembled, bead blasted, all parts are clean and ready to put together. Case fill? Yes, the tub goes to the case but its right above the pan. so, not sure exactly which is which.
yah its the forward planetary....is what my tranny guy assumes.
gonna hop under it in an hour or so... and freeeek out. should be fun dropping it alone. haha
with 1 floor jack....

I read where you mentioned that the filter dropped with the pan. You think that you may have dropped it and then starved the pump and cooked the planitary?
Here is where you can do the temp install.
And Gary aka GWR928 thanks for the tip on the TransGo
^^ thats what im thinking. it wont stay up there so it makes damn good since.. now im kinda nervous about this design. thanks for the diagram as well
bill, im probly gonna take you up on that man. leme head down there and ill shoot you a call if i get ready to ripp it out with a loader.... thanks again.

From your pics looked like the o-ring was still on filter, If you are not the org owner you think someone else could have over looked the old one stuck up in there? Its not uncommon to over look the o-ring stuck in there and is its left then the filter will fall.
