Questions about Re-gear

Hey guys im currently running 35's on my truck with 3.73 gears and to me it feels too sluggish.. and it always downshifts when cruising on the highway on the smallest of hills. now im planning on getting 37's here when my tires wear out, and am wondering about what gearing to go with? my instinct tells me 4.10's would be good for 35's and possibly 4.30's would be good for 37's??? would these gears be too low? also while im re-gearing im thinking about putting a detroit locker in the rear and i would like something for the front but i cant find jack s**t for the Dana 50.. any recommendations?? also are g2 gear sets any good?? 4 wheel parts has pretty good prices on g2 sets for the ford 10.5 inch so im thinking about going with that. ALSO one last question.. when looking for gear sets it says 10.25/10.5 short or long... mine is long right?? thank you for any replies! its greatly appreciated

Do you have programmer or chip, etc.?? or are you stock ? One of the big differences I noticed right away after installing a program to increase torque and hp was the trans stayed in overdrive a lot longer without down shifting on a hill.. (i think this is one reason you get a little better fuel economy with a program increase.. the trans is not down shifting all the time). My program is mild also, only 60 hp more.. and it is not sluggish..

I've got a Banks Ottomind?? 80 hp chip.. it came with the truck. I'm gonna be looking into a DP tuner or TW chip here shortly once my funds come around lol.

AND btw, i HATE the tranmssion shift strategies with the chip, its like it was meant for a gasser (downshifts on anything bigger than a speedbump and holds 2nd and 3rd gear forever). But it does get 1-2 mpg better than stock and has more oomph. So i continue to use it till i can get a real tuner

I'm running 38s and 4.30 gears, and turn right about 2k at 70mph. If you are only going with 37s and you don't tow real heavy I would just stick with the 4.30s.

You can get with Clay from RiffRaff Performance and he can get you a great deal on gears, I got mine from him.

As far as the 10.25 and 10.5- the axle housing and rearend is actually identical between the 2. The ring and pinion are just a tad different from each other though.

For whatever reason the 10.25 gearsets and install kits are sometimes half the price as they are for the 10.5. You can just do as I did with my 10.5, I got the gears and install kit for a 10.25, which just drop right in, for a cheaper price than the 10.5

You can use the 10.25 gears in a 10.5 rearend as long as you also get the install kit for a 10.25, this works vice versa too.

I am running 37" with 456 gearing...Yes, its a little low but great for towing.... I believe 410 gears with 37" tires is as close to stock as possible
