Hi,
Have a 1991 F150 (V6), battery died on me yesterday, got a new one.......drove home noticed that my volt meter was way down....that it was a bad altenator......before getting a new one, changed the battery wires.....cleaned all other conections......started my truck, volt meter was showing that it was still not charging battery.....with truck still running wiggled all the wires, still nothing, while looking at nothing tring to make sure all connections where good, had a scew driver in my hand, I tapped the solenoid and the truck idle went down, checked my meter inside and it showed that it was charging battery.....went and bought new solenoid...started truck, everything looked good, shut truck off, started it again and it went back to same problem, not charging battery....any idea's
Hi,
Its raining here, couldn't do to much, had a set of new plug wires, changed them.....guess what.....everything working fine....took the truck for 1/2 hour drive with everything on (lights, heater, etc...)....still working......turned truck off/on about 10 times...still working......can the alternator brushes work sometimes if they are worn out...should I leave it as is....or should I change the alternator....
I have seen alternator brushes do that, the reason is as the brushes wear, the spring tension on them becomes less and less, eventually, they do not have a good tight ride on the slip rings
Don't think it a bad wire connection, took off and cleaned all connections.......will check the voltmeter......went out last night...still working ok......
