What can be done is the engine stand can be attached to the engine with the engine on the floor/truck bed, then the stand lifted by the pivot area where the weight of the engine is normally carried, until its high enough to swing the stand upright.

I also had to remove the flywheel to mount it. I don't think I'd run it on the stand though, the gassers are one thing but i know when I start my IDI the whole truck rocks around, you wouldn't want your engine stand going through that.
Good thinking................ I think what I will do then is bring the stand onto the tailgate and mount the engine to the stand whilst still suspended to the hoist, then simply lift both off the truck together. That way the legs of the hoist will be under the truck and I will be able to get it really close to the stand which will be on the tail gate. Funny how sometimes you miss the obvious.

That's even better, it would've been far easier had I not taken the engine and stand out of the truck onto the garage floor and done it that way instead!

It's good to think it out ahead of time... but that doesnt seem to happen all the time...
I didn't figure that out until I had the engine in the air and could neither get the engine stand inside the legs of my cherry picker nor lift the engine high enough.

I recently had to work on a 351 and had it mounted on thier medium duty stand (1000lbs rated) with no issues. I think thier heavy duty stand is rated for 2000lbs. They have an online store too.
I wish I had taken pictures of the heavy duty harbor freight engine stand. With a fully dressed 7.5 bolted to it and the head of the stand is bent and drooping is a UNDERSTATEMENT. If this was my engine I would buy a Quality stand OTC/LINCOLN
