A few months back I got a kenwood DPX503 HU and I didn't realy know what I was doing so I had my buddy help me install it and he trimed back all the plastic lips and cut out the middle plastic piece that separates the radio and the climate controls even tho I was against it, are there any ways to mount it better I know its installed wrong and I might need another kit, any info you guys would be great
I put in a Dbl. Din Kenwood in my 2004 a month or so ago. I researched on FTE as well as with crutchfield and discovered there is no kit to fit a Dbl. Din in the 2004 dash. I was able to trim off the 2 screw brackets on the dash cover in the top of the radio opening and also trim a small amount off the bottom and top of the radio opening. I also had to drill mounting holes in the dash structure to actually mount the radio chassis to the dash. It's takes some work, but it looks good and it's solid.
The Kit Experts makes a double din mounting bracket for 03-07 SD's. I don't have the model number but picked it up at Best Buy yesterday (about $30). They also sell the harness kit for the same year range (serial number BHA5800). Good luck.
Yeah, I used a kit from metra and after looking it up its installed like extremely wrong lol, I was way against him cutting it up like that but its already done unfortunately, I did find another kit by best kits tho that looked alot better than my current one.
Risking sounding obvious, any Ford parts counter will be able to provide this. If you have completely trashed the dash then your local wrecker may be a good (cheap) place to start.
