Y pipe heat shield

Y pipe heat shield
Would it be a bad idea to cut off part of the heat shield that just covers the up pipe from the passenger side bank? Mine only had one bolt in it to start with and I cut a slice in it to aid in removing the up pipe. I have some heat shield on a roll, wondering if I can just wrap the pipe with that after the shield is cut off??

you can remove the whole thing and trow it in the trash. its your truck.
my opinion is its there for a reason. I have no idea why you have needed to cut it to start with it has 3 bolts that hold it in. remove the y- pipe and and repair as needed then reinstall as a complete unit is much easer
