Suggestions for repairing heat shield?

I had an exhaust leak recently caused by a nut vibrating loose, which allowed the exhaust to burn through the heat shield between the pipe and the floorboard. Does anyone have any suggestions for replacing just that section of the shield? Ford has a part number for the entire shield, but there's no way I'm doing that much work. Your help is appreciated!

Obviously replacing the heat shielding is the way to go but what if you got the new material and simply cut out the bad section and replace only what is needed? That would be less work.

I have never messed with these heat shields so I am not sure about this. D0es it look like an adhesive backing or is this a molded piece that is secured with large push nuts on threaded studs attached to the body? If it's the latter it may be better to replace the entire shield - perhaps disconnecting the exhaust hangers and allowing the exhaust to drop a couple of inches will make it easier? I wish it wasn't the weekend. If I was at work I could peek under a truck and get a better idea.

This looks like a winner...I'm going for function over form on this one.

My only concern is the adhesive loosening if it gets too warm but if the product is purpose built then it should be fine. I would think.
