Good luck finding a 70's krew kab. High demand + not a lot made= hard to find a good deal.
I would much rather be doing my Ford swap in a krew kab, instead of my little F100.

This one was very unexpected. A Bumpside krew kab with a DT466, on Deuce axles.
Dont bother with that one...it's sold
So I guess I need to find a cummins 12v to stick in my Excursion gasser when it craps out. Any year I should look out for? I want to get one now so I can pull it apart and get it ready.
For a 12valve, look for a 96-98 first choice, and 94-95 as 2nd choice. If you want to keep fed emissions compliant, look for one newer than your X. The newer common rails are woderfully simple, and make crazy power. Destroked also has a stand alone ecm & harness too.
i'm sold on the Cummins also, i'm currently looking for a 70's crew too convert over
Look in small farming community's on the eastern plains. XD
The "Ultimate Pickup" is considered to be a Ford body, Cummins, Allison tranny. Im running a 99 7.3L with a Allison 1000 tranny. I will say, that was the worst conversion ever but man is it worth it. Granted I would take a Cummins over any of the new Powerstroke's. Thats why I had a 05 F350 dually with a cummins swap and manual tranny conversion. (34k miles the stock 6.0l Had a minor explosion. Something failed and it went kaput)
While you hear about 12v swap's all the time cause they are easy an quick power. I would like to see a 24v HO in a ford. But the new Cummins and powerstrokes are not worth the effort to swap.
there are better engines out there, that make just as much if not more power.
and they also can be bought for next to nothing.
when it comes to diesel engines, everyone thinks the cummings 5.9 engines are gold plated and the best thing since sliced bread

Perkins, and a DT360(IH) are a couple, and both in the same cubic inch range. I dont see a powerstroke making 600hp, and towing, and still live very long doing it. The 6BT, Perkins 6, or a DT360 can easily do that.

I know of one 6.0 up in Canada that just crosses over the 600 mark and still hauls. Now it's an Excursion, so it isn't going to be a gooseneck or anything like that, but you didn't mention any limitations.
yup, the DT360 is an excelent engine, and can be bought out of a running school bus that is out of date with an allison trans usually for less that $1000
