Just wanna find out what my rear axle code means, the tag on the door jamb is "C1"? I've looked and looked, I do know the letter indicated a "LS", but wondering what the number refers to. Thanks and Happy new year!

I swear I looked all over for that, thanks alot. Put a bookmark on that baby! I recently replaced the diff cover and replaced with the 08 version, really sweet. Just wanna make sure that the tags matched the door sticker, and that I serviced with the correct lube.

 

This is what I had on a 99:

For a 1999 F-250 Super Duty Power Stroke, the codes on the rear differential tag are :

S409B
3L73 102 8C11
The break down of these codes:
S409B:
S = Sterling Differential
409 = Print Number (Model Number)
B = Revision Identifier (Change in Design)
3L73:
3L73 = 3.73 Ratio
L = Limited Slip
Absence of L = Open Differential.
A 3.73 geared limited slip axle would be marked as : 3L73.
An open differential would show 3(space)73.
102 denotes the ring gear size. 10.25 inches.
8C11 is the build date.
8 = year of manufacture. In this case it means 1998.
C = month of manufacture. A= January, L= December so C= March
11 = day of manufacture. So My differential was manufactured on March 11,
1998

I have a 2004 F350 DRW with a axle code F2. How do I tell if it's a Dana or Sterling?

 

DRW is going to be a Dana 80.
