My truck just came in two weeks ago. Lariat ultimate,3.55 e- lock,6.7, nav, camper and tow pkg...pretty much loaded. At about 180 miles it lost power at a stop light, push the pedal down and it would barely move. Did this until I shut it off then was ok after restart. At 220 miles I was driving up a small hill at 25 mph, and it coughed twice, like a miss. The next day ( Xmas) I hooked up to my snowmobile trailer (4500 lbs) and got on the freeway. AS I drove up the onramp, it started missing again and the power seemed low. Started up a hill on the freeway, speed was about 60 mph, and lost momentum. Barely made the hill, truck slowed to 20mph. Never got above 30 . Turned around and headed back home. Same situation on the way back. Check engine light finally came on. Truck had no power, couldn't get above 20 max. Dealer checked code yesterday, and has no idea what the problem is. Didn't say what the code was. Said ford told them to check for chaffing on a wiring harness. Cleared codes and they say truck runs fine. I'm not too excited about a 60k trick I can't trust. Anyone have a similar problem or any ideas? Dealer has the truck, I am on vacation in the mountains, using borrowed truck( chevy). Thanks guys.
Wow, sorry to hear about your luck with the new truck!
I,too, would be frustrated at the dealer returning the truck without fixing anything, saying all is well. They can clear codes all they want, but something is wrong here and caused the codes to set in the first place.
These engines have proven so far to be very reliable, but unfortunately anything this complex can have problems, no matter how well engineered it may be.
Has the truck done this since the dealer looked at it?
I would have them checking for chaffing on my butt! It showed a trouble code and nothing was repaired? Sounds like the Government, ignore it and it may just go away. And we all know how good that theory works.
I am always struck by how poorly Ford protects their wiring harness at every branch. Rather than using a junction for the protective sheath, they just wad on the electrical tape and call it good. The other electrical shortcoming is a common method of ending the sheath near the end of the wire terminus rather than running it to the terminal and securing the sheath. Because of the way Ford engineered the protective sheath, all flex takes place in a very small area, unnecessarily stressing the wire.
While the GM plumbing and wiring is no better- both look pretty cheap compared to the way the German companies protect and secure all wiring.

Well said, well done, excellent comment.
I have been screaming at Ford about the quality of their wiring, from corrosion issues to poor termination (of the sheath as you noted) to insufficient protection both from abrasion and flex (hence the alternator pigtails fix as a regular fix from me), and the poor quality of many connectors.
Thanks guys..truck is still at dealer. They have cleared the codes and are driving it to see if it will do it again. Yes, pretty frustrated. The only problem the code related to was checking the wiring harness. They assure me they will fix it...as soon as they (and ford) can figure out what is wrong. I guess this is the fun part of driving the first model year! I will keep you all posted.
sorry about your new truck issue...rest assured, they will fix it...so far responses to any issues have been rapidly responded to by Customer Service people. I expect pbrukke will be here soon...
Snakechaser, did your dealer replace your harness? It sounds like Ford have not given them the ok to replace yet. Just told them to do the wiggle test on the harness. Hopefully they can replace and the problem will go away. Thanks for your input.

So far just the wiggle test, truck goes in next week for a real look see.
I had same problem .. it was harness rubbing on tab by EGR . no harness tie back from the factory, patched up dealer said ford wouldn't change out harness

Sports . . . .
I talked to a guy that had the same truck that I bought, F-350 diesel. His truck had 5,000 miles on it when the engine lost power and died. He took it to the Ford dealer in Elkton, MD. They took 4 DAYS to find the problem. There was a leak in the high pressure line. Check it out!!
