that seems like a waste of time. .02 besides how can the dipstick orings go bad if it just sits there and only gets touched when u change the oil or check occasionally? maybe someone has had luck with that but to me it seems like a pain if your not rebuilding the engine.
there have been guys here who have had their dipstick tube flange leak. it is not fixable unless you remove the oil pan. (Until now apparently) the only way the pan comes off is pull the engine so if this is a fix and it works it will save alot of headaches.
Looks like a good kit Phil. I haven't had to change that but I might as well give it a try next oil change. Mine does seep a bit. I've seen a bunch of similar threads on how to change the o ring. Most using vise grips. The brush idea is a good one. I hadn't seen that on Bob's site before.
However I got the same parts from International & Ford for quite a bit more (did not know about the kit at the time).
The kit has all of the necessary parts and most importantly, the brush tool which keeps the inner flange from falling into the pan.
It is an easy fix and it works very well.
Drain the oil and remove the starter, the rest is easy to follow. You can do it and it works-no more leaking!
Also:
The o-ring on the inside of the pan swells up for some reason and leaks.
The flange nut on the outside distorts/warps and adds to the problem.
The dipstick o-ring has been revised. It is NOT a standard o-ring as it has a different shape to it.
Do the fix and you will see all of these things.
