1997 F350 7.3 XLT

Hi, im looking to buy the truck above. regular cab longbed. 186,000 miles roughly. both tanks work. minimal rust on frame and body.small spot of rot near bottom of front drivers side fender. steering is a little loose.just looking for any input on what to mainly look for on these kinda trucks. and the rear of the oil pan is a little damp along with the tranny pan but not dripping.any suggestions would be appreciated.thanks

2wd or 4wd? Auto or Manual?

Engine wise, look around the turbo for leaks and grease. Check the impellar shaft for play of the turbo once you pull the intake tube. Oil and grease leaks are the big ones!

For that dampness of the oil pan, is it on the driver side, passenger side, or both? If the passenger side, check around the dipstick tube.

I dont know what you are looking to pay for it, but from most of what you detailed, nothing sticks out. Just check to see if it starts up from a cold start without lot of difficulty, check the fluids for signs of wear and tear or being changed recently. That with the lek locations and the turbo examination, you should have it covered.

X2!
Take a look at the brake pedal too...if the bottom right side is worn it will give you a good indication of how much stop/go driving it has been put through.

you might also check the bolts on the exaust manifolds...cracked bolts = mucho heat
