I just had a plug blow out on my 2002 Explorer with a 4.6L. It stripped the threads out of the head. In looking on line I have seen a number of people talking about the same issue occurring above 100k miles. They did a temporary fix on the Can the heads be reworked or will I have to get replace the entire head to eliminate this problem? Does anyone have any experience with this issue?
Usually the spark plug blowout was the result of overtightening the plugs when this happens on the 4.6L. The problem was more common on the 5.4L. But it has been known to happen otherwise as well.
