parking brake cable help!!!!
ive purchased 3 cables and none seem to fit.
1 from oriellys
1 from auto zone
1 from ford dealership
all have been the same length and yielded the same "no fit" results.
is there a write up for install?
maybe im just installing incorrectly?
would anyone been willing to take an under cab picture of the cables coming out of the cab and connecting to the second cable?
thanks in advance
Also this just happened on my kids truck. In trying to hook up the front cable we had to pull the drums and move the parking brake levers all the way to the rear first. They were stuck a little. Before we did that the front cable was coming up a few inches short. Maybe try that. And keep in mind if those rear cables aren't retracting all the way till the levers nearly rub the drums then either your back cables are bad or you need to disassemble and lube the parking brake parts at the top that are attached to the anchor stud. Or both. They have to retract all the way or you will never get your rear brakes to work right.
Then don't use the parking brake in below freezing wet weather. It's a really crappy design for that. Something is gonna stick if you do.
The front cable being screwed up and stretched makes a difference also. I've replaced all of them on my truck. The one for the pedal is pretty tough, but it works.
Also, like Dan was saying, make sure the drum parts are working properly as well. You have to disassemble the brakes to put them in, so just get it fixed up when you put it back together.
