im from the IDI forum my buddy and i have been building a 95 powerstroke truck and he got some mechanical gauges for it and we were wondering if you guys had some pics to show me where to put the mechanical sending unit if i want to keep the stock gauge working as well...
the stock gauge doesnt read actual temps. no point in keepiing it hooked up if youre using a mechanical gauge. if you really want to keep the idiot gauge working, try using a tee fitting. not sure the thread sizes.
back again..... i know on my IDI there is one port on the engine for the stock gauge and another for the temp light. does the same apply to the powerstroke? are there 2 ports i can choose from? and the same with the oil pressure can i hook up a mechanical oil pressure and keep the stock gauge working.... its more of a cosmetic thing i guess he's worried about.

Yes we do, look at post #10 on this thread for a picture ...
The temp sender is attached to the top of the water pump adjacent to the thermostat housing. If you follow the radiator top hose down to the metal housing, look to the passenger side of the metal housing. You'll see the sender there.
It sits in a 3/8" NPT threaded fitting. To the front of it you'll also see a 1/4" NPT pipe plug. If you pull that plug it connects to the hot side of the thermostat. You can put a second sender there without disturbing the stock sensor.

You're confusing the oil pressure "gauge" (switch) with the temp gauge. The temperature gauge is a fully functional gauge.

A tee fitting would work well for a pressure gauge but really poor for the temperature gauge. The temp sender hangs down into the fluid flow path so it can pick up the water temperature. If it is up in a tee it's not going to be in the flow.
