1990 F250 7.3 Diesel starting problems
I'm new to this site and hope i'm in the correct forum for help. I have a 1990 f250 7.3 diesel and it takes about a couple min to start the beast. I'm afraid I will burn the starter up. When it starts it is great all day depending the amount of time I let it sit. but let it sit overnight and its the same drill all over again, wont start again until I crank it to death.Someone told me it is loosing pressure and it can be from 4 different paces, What can I do ?Any ideas I dont want too replace another starter. Not GP prob ,Thx, Mike

an odd note for you guys is from a guy i know here on the island, not on the forums yet but then again he is stuck in his ways.
He has used a flexible chunk of stainless tubing for the filter header to ip line. In the middle of it is a on off valve that keeps his fuel at the filter. If it cant drain it solves the issue in come cases. Albeit an odd way to accomplish the task but he spend hundreds in line and o rings and, and and, etc. So then he did this and no more issues. When he gets out he turns the valve if he will be parked for more than a couple hours. If it is just a run in stop, he doesn't worry about it. Overnight is a must. I asked him about using a check valve in the supply line but he had already done this and isn't changing it. I just figured if there was a one way valve in the supply line up high like near the filter, the problem would be stopped as well. meh, no biggie.

CM, you really should start a new thread with your question rather than dredge up old non-related threads.
Anyway, a good place for a lot of your answers is in the FAQ:

I believe there is a check valve in the return line on the IP, if this was stuck, it might be possible for fuel to (drain back) from or away from the IP thus the ip would have air in it, thus no injection could occur until the air was pushed out with new fuel from cranking or from an electric pump, how ever this seems unlikely, make certain that the gp system is working correctly. there is also a check valve in the return line leaving the filter head to keep that line from, draining the system, the fuel line leading to the IP is vertical and contains enough fuel to run the engine for 30-45 seconds, so a significant flow of air would be needed to drain all the fuel from the system to keep it from running, are you plugging in the block heater? how cold is it when you do it? if it is forty out and its been plugged in for more than four hours it should start with out waiting for glows to warm. one of the ways the controller can fail is the controller will heat the gp"s for four second, each time the key is turned on then off, and the WTS light might only blink very quickly. watch your dome lite it will dim when the gp's are heating, 8-10 seconds when cold.
