My son has a 99 F250 Diesel. This morning ( Christmas ), it started running rough and blowing gray smoke. When I got to where he was stranded, I had him start it up so I could hear it. It turned over, but seemed to be hydrolocked on the first rotation, but then it started up, rolling all kinds of smoke out the exhaust. I had him put the transfer case in low and let the truck idle 2 blocks to his house. Put out a cloud of stinkin grey smoke the whole way.
Engine also has a slight knock, does this sound like an injector leaking into a cylinder?
Knock sounds like it is on the passenger side.
Thanks guys, I thought it might be an injector, but the knock kind of threw me. Must be leaking bad to cause a knock. There was enough smoke there for 8 leaking injectors.
Pulled #6 and #8, found piece of tip broken on #8. It was dribbling fuel when I pulled it out. Approx 1/4 inch of the part that surrounds the extended part of the tip was broken off.
I have a borescope, I will try to look into 8 and see if I can see any damage. Probably stick a rebuilt injector in and see what happens.
