I just have to brag up some..... I took the '05 Excursion, piled in all the gifts, all the food, my two adults sons, one adult daughter-n-law, my wife & I & we drove 240 miles (each way) yesterday to see my elderly folks. The trip was very pleasant - lots of room for all of us and our stuff, no way could we have been as comfortable in anything else. You just gotta LUV the big 'ol gentle beast of a truck!
Two weeks ago we took our first road trip up to the lake for the weekend in ours. It was nice for everyone to have the room and not right up on each other. Even though it was only a 60 mile trip it was nice. Look forward to many more road trips.
A Mini-Cooper would have saved you a few bucks in gas!
I make this trip every week or every other week. I actually bought a 2001 Mazda Protege for $2,900 just for this but I'm taking my family with me this time and they won't all fit in the Mazda.
I travel from Cocoa Florida to Woodstock GA (30 miles northwest of Atlanta) every 2 weeks with 2 dogs. No vehicle is better suited for this than my '05 PS Ex. Well, maybe a Boeing 777.........
Gotta love the interior room and range of this truck! 2300 RPM and 16.2 mpg the entire 512 miles each way. When I get to the destination still have 200 miles range in the tank!
Not sure what my comments would be after 512 miles in a Mini :-)
Left on Christmas Eve with my wife, 3 teenage daughters, and the dog on a 1,100 mile trip from Colorado to Indiana. It was a 16 hour trip. The way I figure it, had we flown from Denver to O'Hare, it would have only saved us 6 hours (and that's assuming everything went smoothly with the airlines.) Fuel cost was equal to ONE airline ticket.
My daughters love the Excursion since they have room to comfortably spread out. (Besides, they sleep most of the trip anyway.) We LOVE our Excursion.
