Another DEF fill post

I have a tad over 4,700 miles on my truck. I got the DEF warning message. Today it showed 597 miles to go. I stopped by the Ford dealer and picked up the "Sell Pack". It is part# PM-27-J which is two 2.5 gallon jugs and the filler spouts. Total cost was $39.18 + tax. That's roughly $7.83 a gallon (but you get the two filler spouts as a free gift!). I decided to go with the Ford DEF in order to get the special spout to prevent spills.

I'm posting pics for the guys that haven't done this yet. There is a white washer that is included but be careful, it will slide off the assembly if you're not watching while you're putting the tube down in the jug. If you screw the filler spout down on the jug w/o the white washer, it will leak!!! As you pour, it will go "glug glug glug" as the air vents. Be sure you push the spout down into the next of the DEF filler neck on the truck as far as it will go so it seals.

This is the Ford "sell pack", it contains two jugs and two spouts. It's heavy!

This is what I had left in the jug with the indicator reading 59x miles to go. It would not take any more fluid.

Costs $10.99 for a 2.5 gallon jug of Peak DEF. It's certified...

The only benefit you get with the MC stuff is the neat, anti-spill nozzle.

Makes for a good reason to buy it at least once from FoMoCo

Nice post Champ! Good for the new owners. I did the same, bought the Ford DEF first for the filler then the Peak brand DEF (O'Reilly's, Kragen Auto Parts, etc.) at about half the price. The Peak DEF has a filler but not with the air hose inside like Fords. Will be nice to by DEF in the future from the truck stops at their DEF pumps - around $2.99 gallon - sweet!

Merry Christmas to all.

No...eventually it will limit you to idle speeds only.

So much for Ford claiming that the DEF will last through oil change intervals.

FREE

My dealership filled it free with an oil change and tire rotation. $122 for everything. I think pretty fair price. I have 15K miles.

I don't see why it won't. My truck is almost at 6,000 miles on the original DEF fill. I don't expect to have to fill it for another couple thousand miles.

It depends on how much the engine is worked.
I have not towed heavy much so mine is lasting a decent amount of time.
These guys that are moving 10,000 lbs plus daily will use more due to higher engine temps.

The dealers are also not required for filling the tanks during PDI so it is possible we didn't pick up these trucks with a full tank.
(There has been many discussions about this and I forget the outcome.)

I tow a lot and I use about 1 gal/1000 miles. Sometimes more but not much. I fill it every 4 to 5 weeks, run it down to approx. 100 to empty so that I don't have much left over to hang on to.

I just did the same as the OP, got a jug from Ford so I could have the nice filler spout. Usually, I fill at a truck stop that has the water hoses by the pumps so I can spray the side of the truck down when I'm done.

I had the "below half" message on the screen a week ago, so topped it up. Towed 22 hours to Florida and it's now showing "below half" again. Not sure if this is reasonable consumption of DEF or not, but I suspect it is. I'm going to visit the local Ford dealer in a few days to get one of the Ford filler spouts.
