Hello All. This is my first time posting but I've done a great deal of reading and there are is a ton of knowledge here.
I am installing a Ford Factory overhead rail system DVD in my dad's 2005 F150. I have the player and a new wiring harness. Can someone direct me to or provide me with the wiring installation guide? I installed one of these in my wife's expedition a couple of years ago and without the wiring guide I would have screwed it all up! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I just need to know how the wires are suppoesed to be routed.
From back of deck, under dash across drivers side, up front of drivers door, then either under head liner straight to DVD, or under head liner to middle then straight back to DVD I cannot remember. Soon as you get to the head liner look how much of the harness is left over and go accordingly.
Nope, the DVD harness goes up the C-pillar along with the headliner harness. I did the same thing on my 04 years ago for my sons. The connector's about at the belt line on the rear pillar on the driver's side. Using the routing of the original harness, you'll see that the DVD pigtail goes straight to the player. The wiring is pretty straight forward, so I don't think you'll need a diagram. Hope this helps.
and I appreciate all of the imput. The harness I have is the full harness that runs to the radio so I ran it the same way. I am having an issue with it working though. The DVD has power and the head unit displays headphones indicating it recognizes the DVD player. When I put a DVD in nothing is on the screen, however, the audio from the DVD is playing on the truck's audio system. I have read about issues regarding mismatched head units and DVD players but I'm not sure if that is the case or my player isn't functioning properly.
It sounds like you might have a compatibility issue. I would call the number that is in the other threads and see what they think. Make sure you have all the part numbers for the radio, dvd player and your build date. However, since you have sound in the audio system and it recognizes the player, I'm guess the screen is bad, are you sure this was a working DVD unit to begin with?
when I bought it, however, you never know. When I received it the unit still had all of the protective plastic strips on it and had never been installed. I only paid $99 for it so even if it needs repair I think I'll still come out alright. The truck is a 2005 F150 and the player has a production date of 2006. I spoke with a lady from Sybesmas yesterday who told me to send her the part numbers for the harness, DVD, and head unit and she'd be sure they were comparable. I cannot find a model number on the DVD. Do I have to remove the unit from the plastic casing?
