Fellas,
wondering if anyone ever heard their truck's idle sound change back and forth from rattle to quiet to rattle to quiet in about 2 second intervals. It doesnt start any different, it still has normal power but this sound makes me wonder. anyone ever hear this, is the ip dying faster than i thought?
sounds like the cold advance solenoid could be going doesn't it?
did anything turn up doing a search for testing it?
while waiting for help,i guess the most logical thing to check would be the wire going to it.testing it to make sure it had a steady power supply.maybe even just running a jumper to it.that would eliminate that, while waiting for help.
once warm,it idles smooth right?
it makes the sound right after the cold idle advance kicks off for about 2 minutes. Not really sure. Ill check the connections but it runs and idles fine, just a weird thing with the changing pitch of the idle sound. If it just stayed constant, obviously no issue, but the on off sound just baffles me.
ahh nevermind that.it appears to be inside the ip.i was thinking of the high idle solenoid.that's whats external.
the cold timing advance is inside the ip.-that's what sounds like is playing games on ya.
yeah im not terribly worried about it but when my truck wouldnt start well hot i was thinking the ip was headed out the door but it hasnt dne it in a long time so now i am just scratching my head with this new issue. Its an aged pump so for christmas to the truck itll get new ip, new intake plenum, and some other assorted goodies haha.
lol, thought about it but it doesnt need one. If i had a turbo the wheels wouldnt get any grip! hahaha. Id break something i'm sure. if i ever have to rebuild or replace the engine, i will definitely build from the ground up but for now i am curious to do the plenum modification i have been drooling over and see what happens. Then the fan is gone for an electric setup. that ought to fetch a few hp between the two
