7.3 loss of power when pulling hard

I bought this truck a few months ago and shortly after have noticed a couple things...goin up a long steep grade trying to keep my speed up I can hear what I thought was a loud sucking noise from the drivers side...I cleaned the K&N and that wasn't it...oil was just changed and fuel filter just before this...I also towed a trailer up the same hill after that and had the same sucking or blowing sound and slowed right down, motor still rev'd but slowing down. Also the truck won't rev up over roughly 2600 whether pulling or not...it gets to about there and then it hesitates. As long as I run it under that 2600 you'd never know it had a problem.

Thanx in advance for ur thoughts!!

Happy holidays!!

You might have boost leak.. see my picture gallery for a my homemade boost leak detector.. (you will need a air compressor and about 10 -20 psi also)..

How long should it hold 10-20psi - forever? Do you leave it overnight?

The power issue could be leaking pipes or boots. You could have a restriction in the fuel tank at the pickup tubes. They have socks on them that can get clogged.
The sucking noise is the turbo working unless you have a really bad boost leak and then you would really not have any power..I would get rid of the K&N as soon as you can. They are not good with deisel/turbos.Get a 6637 or another type of cleanable filter good for diesels.

What I noticed is that the system will not hold air pressure but only a few seconds. This is normal.... To check for leaks, remove the air cleaner filter at the 4" hose, attach an adapter like in my gallery pic's, using a compressor, adjust the max psi to 20 max, apply the air pressure into the intake of the turbo. Then go ahead and "listen" for any air leaks around the pipes, boots, etc.. (the air pressure will drop quickly if you stop applying the air pressure to the system. This is normal)
