I have an 03 f-250 6.0l with 122k miles. My truck started acting up about a week ago, I took it to the dealership and they said it needed a new hpop and ipr and the hpop was $1700 and the ipr was going to be $380. However, I talked to one of my friends who works on diesels and took it to him also to see and he said that he didnt see why this would make my truck not be able to go over thirty. He believes the truck isnt getting any boost and the vanes are stuck open and that the problem is strictly turbo related. I dont know really know if the dealership is right and i dont want to spend 2200 dollars to not have the problem fixed. Can someone please point me in the right direction? It does not blow smoke that I can tell, and when i step on it the rpms go up but the truck just will not go over 30 anymore, it has gotten severly worse since i noticed it. Thanks
If you can't go over 30 mph, I would think it would be more than a stuck turbo. I've blown the intercooler hose off on a number of occasions, leaving me with zero boost, and I've turned around and drove it back, and got up to 60 mph, although it didn't get there quickly. How does it start? If the hpop was shot it should take a while to start...I'm a beginner here, I know there's a way to test for hpop pressure...go read the tech folder. Stc fitting should be considered...
I posted this a couple of days ago..I got reflashed (not me, the truck) and when I flogged it after the reflash, it pertty much shut down on me, and wouldn't get out of it's own way. I shut it down, restarted it, and it was fine. Did the dealer pull any codes?
yea, the dealer pulled the code p2290 which is icp low. I still dont understand how this would tie in to my truck not being able to go over thirty. When it first started happening i could go sixty then after i got it back from the dealer it wont go over thirty no matter how much time it takes.
P2290 is ICP too low running. P2285 on an 03 normally indicates a failed sensor. Cleaning the turbo is $10 for a turbo kit and some time. Have you checked the fuel pressure and filters?
IMHO your dealership is playing parts changers without actually diagnosing the problem. You could very easily have a failed HPOP on an 03 OR an HPO leak. They weren't as bulletproof as the 05 and up pumps. IF you don't have adequate HPO to fire your injectors it's not going to run properly.

The only way to really know is to do the homework ---- e.g. systematically test every system, and see what it says.
If it doesn't run well with the ICP sensor disconnected, it is time to diagnose...
