I have a 62 F100 step side. My question is that you can only unlock the door on the passenger side there is no key hole on the driver’s side. Does anyone know why this would be? And no the driver’s side has not been filled in, I pulled the door panel and looked for that.
I saw the same thing on a friends truck he was buying, and the seller answered.
That keyed handles are more expensive so he put a non keyed push button in it so it would work. Plus since it was just a weekend truck it stayed that way for 10 years.
Ironically enough my friend hasn't changed it himself last time I ran into him. 8 years later.
The drivers door lock was an option on those models, you locked the driver door from the inside and exited on the passenger side away from street traffic, then locked the passenger door with the key. To get in, you do the reverse.
I asked something similar about having a arm rest on the drivers side inside door panel and not one on the passenger side. A younger guy I work with ,had his own opinion and comment. He stated back in the sixties men where more Gentlemanly and would open the passenger doors for there passenger and was no need for a inside pull handle on the right side. I will have to says it is for the same reason Gentleman opened up the passenger doors first. Makes ya think huh.
