I just unhooked the trailer from my F 100. I measured the laden height ... and the unladen height of the rear bumper.

The weight of that trailer CRUSHED the back end of my Ford FULLY ONE and ONE EIGHTH INCH TOWARDS THE GROUND.

1 and 1/8 INCHES!!!

Hell ... the springs defect more than that when I put a load of fire wood in the back.

BTW, the normal, unladen ride height from ground to bottom of rear bumper is 20 and 1/4 inchs.

Now the trailer ... to meet the hitch ... the trailer was 11 inches from level. Which probably shifted a SIGNIFICANT portion of the trailers total weight onto the hitch and springs of my old Ford.

That might account for that whole dang 1/8 inch!

Wow. Interesting statistics.

Do you have a source? I'd like to get those EXACT weights so's I can get the spring rates correct.

I wouldn't want to leave anything to guesswork.

These old Fords just keep on giving and giving.
Better yet, sell your old bed (it looks pretty good, gotta be worth several hundred)buy another trailer just like that one so your trailer will match the truck, sell the first trailer frame for scrap... You'll come out $$$$ ahead

I do agree that it would be a lot better on a 3/4 or 1 ton truck but it's probably not THAT much heavier.

Try here:
http://www.olive-drab.com/od_mvg_veh...d_trailers.php

It looks like you got a M-104 1 1/2 ton trailer, based on the measurements you stated and the tires.

To get an exact weight for the bed I'd find a truck scale near you and weigh your truck with the trailer. Then I'd cut the bed off the trailer chassis and go back over the scale and weigh your truck and trailer frame. There's your exact bed weight.

Sure. Go to doch-chumps link. The shows the total trailer weight at 2700lbs . So my guestimation of 1000lbs for the bed would be very close leaving 1700 for the frame axle and tires. I am not going buy your pics for weight either. We have 10 of those trailers at work. They are very well built(military spec) and weigh alot(like the link says) So you can drop the attitude. I am trying to be heplfull. I wouldnt really like to see someone go thru all the trouble of mounting that bed and have it overload your truck without anything in it. I dont know how many trucks you have built but i have built quit a few and trying to pass some knowledge along. I actualy will like the look of the bed on the truck but it is going to be too heavy for a F100. You wight as well put it on a ranger

WOW ... and the government told me its a M105A2 Stevens MFG Co, Cargo Trailer, two wheeled, 1 1/2 ton, serial number 336.

Well THAT can't be.

The government is gonna get a REAL nasty letter from me.

I wouldn't ... they are an optical illusion.

I supported the trailer with a floor jack ... just to keep anyone from seeing the truck draggin on the ground ... and then I photo-shopped the jack out of the picture. Just to mess with your head.

If you look REAL close ... its plain to see the gouge marks where my truck barely scraped its way into the drive way.

If you mean my "measurements" ... I wouldn't trust them either ... EVERYBODY know what a damned liar I am.

Per the site:

The M105A2 variant also lacked the support leg and landing gear of the other models.

His trailer has this... so is it another variant of the M105 or a M104?

The M104 1 1/2 to cargo trailer was very similar to the M105, but was equipped with 11:00x20 tires to match the M34 and M135 2 1/2 ton cargo trucks. Externally, the M104 series trailers are very similar to the M105.
The tire size might help pinpoint which model it is.

Either way, I still think it's a kick @ss idea!

She's got 9.00x20 Tires.

It does have a rear support leg ... and the landing gear in the front... just like the operators manual (TM 9 - 2330-213-14 & P) indicates it should.

Every scrap of paper I got from the Gov AND the id tag on the trailer indicate that this is a M105A2.

No matter ... in a little while it will be all

FORD.
