I got a clean with minor faults, uncut Ranger XLT radio bezel. I was wonderin if anyone on here would like to trade a regular Ranger radio bezel for this XLT one. I want the darker wood grain but dont want to cut up a good bezel that someone might be lookin for.
There were only two types of woodgrain put on these trucks. Rosewood, which is the wood grain on the Ranger XLT bezel, and burlwood, which is what should be on your original bezel. Rosewood was used from 1980-1984, and burlwood was used 1985-1986. Ranger and Ranger XLT bezels both have the same Rosewood pattern. If you want to keep your factory burlwood bezels, then you need to look for an XLT bezel from a 1985-1986 truck.
No I figured thered be someone here wantin an original Ranger XLT bezel and I didnt want to cut it up if someone was Interested in a trade for the regular ranger bezel. I am looking for the rosewood grain though. The Ranger XLT bezel just requires a little bit of super glue and itll be back to new. If no one is interested Ill just use this Ranger XLT bezel and cut a hole in it for my 85-86 radio.
You're throwing me off when you say regular Ranger bezel. The Ranger XLT bezel is from 1980-1981. If you have one of these, then depending on the condition, may not be wise to cut it up, as it could be worth more than that. The Ranger radio bezel is still not the base bezel, but it is the first in line for woodgrain bezels. Now, if you're just wanting woodgrain bezels, then you can get those from any 1980-1984 Ranger, Ranger XLT, Ranger Lariat, XL, or XLT truck, and have woodgrain. If you're looking for woodgrain, I do have an XL bezel sitting in the shop that is already cut for an aftermarket radio. Some of the woodgrain is coming off, but it's still presentable. It has the clock cut outs too. If that's what you're wanting, let me know. I would like to have the Ranger XLT bezel if you're looking to trade.
He's looking for a rosewood bezel from 1980-1984 trucks to put into his 1985 to replace his burlwood. (Or at least that's how I understand it)
The 1980-1984 Rosewood has a **** and shaft type bezel.
The 1985-1986 Burlwood. has a din-type radio bezel.
So I don't think it matters to him what trim package is named on the bezel does it?
I would think your XL bezel would be a good trade as it's already cut. Unmolested radio bezels are getting very rare nowdays. It almost made me cry about that Rosewood Radio Delete bezel mentioned in the other thread. Most all Rosewood bezels are **** and shaft type, so cutting it is the only way otherwise. Looking in the wrecker for one already cut is a possibility as well.
Exactly. Thank you 81-f-150. The only thing is Iv seen some cut up at the jys and there no good for a restoration. The cuts are uneven and go through more matterial then necessary. So Im looking for one thats a more common package and either uncut or clean cut. I do need to make some repairs to the screw holes on this Ranger XLT bezel but itll be like new when Im done.

I figured that's what you were after, but I just wasn't sure why you were saying Ranger bezel too.
Yea, my XL bezel isn't cut the best. My Custom bezel is cut quite cleanly, but it's not woodgrain, so it wouldn't work. I'd really suggest looking for a bezel that's already been cut. I am with 81 Explorer, it's really sad to see these Ranger bezels get cut, as they're few and far between. It took me 7 months just to find an unmolested Ranger Lariat radio bezel, and I had to have it shipped to me from Ohio.
This is my XL bezel. A previous owner of my interior was nice enough to cut the bezel for a radio, 2 sizes too big. The radio in it is a factory 1985 Electronic radio, which i'm pretty sure is bigger than an aftermarket cd player. My bezel is a little too far gone. I have seen a few people sporting surround pieces that are really good at covering up excess cut marks, but only when the bezel has been cut inside of the chrome trim ring surrounding the radio. They do quite well at making the radio look original.
Thats what Im goin for when Im done. Im even buildin a wooden center console to fit an amp. Out of site out of mind as they say. Add class and sound with out the preyin eyes of *********s. I just hate to see this one get cut up knowin someone here has a good swap in their hands and wants an unmolested piece.
I think there might be 3 types boys! I know there is the rosewood and burlwood.. But i can take a pic of two different shades of rosewood. One being more brown out of my XLT Ranger and one being more redish out of my 81 Lariat. I swear its not faded or nothing its just a different color.

Agreed. I also have a rosewood Ranger XLT bezel that isn't the standard reddish color, but more brown. The back of the bezel is light brown instead of black like most bezels I've seen. Here's some pics of mine. Would like to see your bezels as well Ranger.
They are both Rosewood. Just different manufacture process I'd imagine as the Part numbers were updated in 1982.

Nope, no difference in the Rosewood. My 1982 XL bezel has a black backing, but my 1980 Ranger Lariat bezel has a brown backing. As 81 Explorer said, just a different way of making them.
The bezel on the left in the following pic is circa 1982. The one on the right is circa 1980. There's a difference here too. However, after I cleaned the 1982 bezel, I noticed it turned a shade lighter, and now is much closer to being the same color as the Ranger Lariat bezel. The difference here is that my Ranger Lariat radio bezel was well taken care of. The other bezel came from a truck that was relatively trashed. Most of the really good condition bezels i've ever seen are the same hue/brightness as my Ranger Lariat bezel.
