Can anyone tell me of a good spot to get my rust repaired and a new paint job? It is just the typical bronco rust.... wheel wells and then the hood needs a good sanding. But I am also looking for a new paint job...
Is a mom-and-pop place the way to go? or somewhere like Maaco?
any experience and advice shared would be greatly appreciated....
Everyone I know who got the "Maaco Special" paint job has been very disatisfied. Paint flaking off after 3 months, etc. They didn't even sand down the color underneath so the other color paint was showing through. Not sure where would be a good place, but I would steer clear of Maaco.
Why not repair it yourself and save some money? It's already in bad shape so how bad you mess it up? I don't know what panels are available for your Bronco but I'm sure someone in the Bronco forum can help you.
All I used to make the repair was a low end welder, a grinder, a drill with a 6" sanding disc, and a die grinder. Not really hard once you've done a couple of spots. Take a look at this post to see how easy it can be. Patch Panel/Rust Repair
I've used Maaco and been satisfied - what do you expect for $300? I paid a lot more than that but I think I got a much better job and a pretty good guarantee.
I know a guy who had his 56 f100 painted at Maaco. He was very satisfied. However, he did all the body work himself and sanded the whole vehicle before taking it in to make sure it was done right. I am going to have my 54 painted by a local guy who paints full time for a dealer. He does side jobs at about half the going rate. Let us know who you use and how it turns out. John
Actually, I know three people who had Maaco paint their truck/car and were happy with the results. All three did all the body prep themselves. They used the local Maaco here in Roseville because of word-of-mouth recommendations from other customers. I guess some shops are better than others. Good Luck, John
my brothers girlfriend got her car painted at maaco and it was horrible, they did no sanding at all and whoever taped off the car was blind there was paint on all the lights, radiator, under the car, wheel wells, windows. i guess ur right about it depending on which shop does it and whose working there. i mean it was very cheap and what she got the whole car done for was about the same as what we would have spent jus buying good quality paint at my friends body shop to paint it.
