Thanks for the info Guys!!
I will have to look for a Bronco tailgate and gut it. It would look cool with the diamond plate! So I take it only a 78-79 tailgate will fit correctly?
Yes, only those two years, if you have trouble finding one you could buy a new shell from the aftermarket, as you don't need the elec. window parts (you would still need the internals to open it, and latches, of course).
Even the aftermarket shells can be pricey brand new. But tracking down a used one in decent shape isn't always easy either since you are looking for just two model years worth of tailgates.
The half cab is NLA. Creative Product of Minnesota made these for the full size Bronco for a few years but has been out of business for a while now. The sponsor of this forum bought the tooling rights to build it from CP of MN a couple years back and the JBG catalog even had pictures in the "Coming Soon" section but it has never surfaced again and no longer appears in the catalog. If I recall correctly, the half cab unit came without a window but would accept just about any pick-up truck rear glass available at the time.
the cool thing about if you keep a bronco gate on it is you can gut the glass and well in the glass slot, and then youll be able to fit some huge speakers in the bronco gate.. then you wont have to have sub boxes taking up your cargo area.. if yoru into that stereo stuff.. or you could also build toolboxes into the bronco gate.
Even though I got it from a car lot, I did talk to the previous owner of 17yrs who did all the work and got a 2" stack of receipts. He figured he had $20k into it!
Heres some info on the Half Cab. They did come with the rear slider window. I have all the paperwork for mine. They say it can be uninstalled in like 30 minutes. It looks like they had a tonneau cover for 1980 and newer in addition to the half cab kit for those years.
So what would be a going price for a tailgate that might need some minor body work and no glass or access panel? (which I don't care about) I found one about 1.5hrs away for $120. I would have to paint it anyway to match mine.
Thanks, Tom

Good idea's! I would like a tool box, but I will probably just diamond plate it for now.
